In addition to the more traditional reference services such as locating specific information or assisting with bibliographic citations, the reference staff offer guidance in computer database selection and searching. Reference staff members can help you perform computer-based searches on a wide range of databases and other online services. If you want more advanced individual instruction for searching strategies, you can make an appointment with a member of the Reference Department. Please see the list of Subject Specialists to find a staff member who covers your subject area, or, use the comment form to set up an appointment.
In addition, general reference librarians offer workshops in database searching, and lecture to classes on library resources and finding aids appropriate for specific courses.
Faculty who wish to schedule a classroom instruction session tailored to a specific subject should contact one of the reference librarians at least two weeks in advance of the session. You can request an instruction session by completing the instruction request form or by contacting the Information Technology Librarians at 824-2176 or by calling Lisa Hullett at 824-2185 or Del O'Neal at (256) 824-6548.
