Denying Student Access to WebCT

At times, you may find it necessary to deny a student access to your WebCT course. For example, if you're not sure if a student is legitimately enrolled in your course, instead of deleting the student from the course, you could deny access to the course. You may also want to deny access to students at the beginning of the term if you are still adding content to your course.

Denying Access

  1. In the Control Panel area, click Manage Course.

  2. On the Manage Course page, click Manage Students.

  3. In the student listing, find the student to whom you want to deny access. Click the first name of the student.

  4. On the Edit Record page, click the Deny Access button.

  5. Click OK to confirm that you wish to deny access to this student.

  6. It will take just a second for WebCT to process the request. Once the student has been denied access to your course, his/her WebCT ID should appear in gray and the button you clicked to deny access should now be titled Allow Access.

  7. Click the Update or cancel buttons to exit the Edit Record screen.

The next time the student tries to access WebCT, he/she will see the following screen:

Allowing Access

To allow access to a student that has previously been denied access, repeat steps 1-3 above. Then, on the Edit Record screen, click the Allow Access button.
